It is not expected that any European officers will necessarily lose their appointments under Government by reason of the transfer. It is anticipated that about 50 Asiatic clerks now employed by Government will be available for transfer to the Company. Some of these would be entitled to compensation for abolition of office under Government. The exact amount cannot be calculated till the date of handing over is settled, but the highest paid officer receives only $1,800 per annum and no one has over eight years service.
